Canon launches 200mm f2 and 800mm f5.6 IS lenses
Canon unveils prototypes of two new telephoto EF lenses
United Kingdom / Republic of Ireland, 16 October, 2007: Canon Inc. today announces the development of two new telephoto lenses for use with its EOS SLR cameras: the EF200mm f/2L IS USM and the EF800mm f/5.6L IS USM.
Classed as professional L lenses, both the new Canon EF200mm f/2L IS USM and EF800mm f/5.6L IS USM incorporate a high-performance Image Stabilizer, along with special optical materials such as fluorite to correct chromatic aberrations and offer the highest levels of resolution and contrast when using these lenses.
With its large f/2 aperture, the EF200mm f/2L IS USM targets photographers who seek a brighter lens for portraiture and indoor sports photography. The EF800mm f/5.6L IS USM, which will deliver telephoto performance surpassing the current EF 600mm f/4L IS USM lens, is being developed in response to requests from professional sports and news photographers for a high-performance lens that offers a longer focal distance.
Additional information on these lenses will be available in the early part of 2008.
